Kevin Rudd is NOT the 28th PM
It's being reported by some people that Kevin Rudd has become the 28th Prime Minister of Australia on 27 July 2013.
They're wrong. He's the 26th Prime Minister of Australia.
There have been 33 terms of office for Prime Ministers since Sir Edmond Barton was our first in 1901. However, there have been only 27 people who have served in the office.
Julia Gillard was the 27th person to hold the office of Prime Minister. Kevin Rudd was the 26th person to be Prime Minister. He is STILL the 26th person to be Prime Minister.
Australia does NOT follow the USA system of numbering. If we did, Julia Gillard would be the 32nd Prime Minister. Kevin Rudd would be both the 31st and the 33rd Prime Minister.
I hope reporters will do their homework and list Kevin Rudd as the 26th Prime Minister.
Last Surviving ANZAC
Sophie B wrote to me that she thought we credited the wrong person as the last surviving ANZAC from the Gallipoli Campaign. She said she thought it "was actually Alec Campbell who died in 2002 at the age of 103."
Yes, Sophie, you're partly correct. Alec Campbell was our last surviving ANZAC from the Gallipoli Campaign. However, Alec didn't land there until early November 1915.
It was Ted Matthews who was our last surviving ANZAC from the FIRST landing at Anzac Cove of the Gallipoli campaign on 25 April 1915.
Ted was 18 years old when he went ashore on in the FIRST Gallipoli landing. He one of the last to leave when the eight month campaign was aborted. He died in 1997 at the age of 101.
I've updated the information on our website to honour both Ted Matthews and Alec Campbell. Along with all the other men and women who have risked their lives in service of Australia over the years, we owe them a debt of gratitude.

Rats of Tobruk
Owen C. emailed me about a project he's undertaken to create a website for the Rats of Tobruk
Association in Victoria. It includes a database so you can look up the basic records of these remarkable
men. The website also includes a variety of resource links you might find helpful if you're interested
in the Rats.
